This job is responsible for maintaining sterilization equipment and surgica! l instruments, issuing packing and sterilization of supplies, instrument trays and inventory service to surgery and patient care units.
An incumbent oversees the work of staff in the absence of management, and assists in planning, organizing and administering the Central Supply Department. The work requires knowledge of the policies, procedures and equipment applicable to the work unit at appointment.
Essential Duties:
Sterilizes instruments, equipment, utensils and linen and supplies using various types of sterilizers and related accessories.
Assembles instrument trays and handles all items in accordance with established procedures.
Dispenses products as requested; prioritizes emergency requests and issues required supplies and equipment based on knowledge of procedures.
Disassembles and cleans equipment/instruments using approved disinfectants, detergents, soaps and cleaners; reassembles equipment after cleaning, and! tests for proper functioning.
Replaces lost or damag! ed parts from stock on hand.
Makes visual inventory inspections to maintain adequate stock and supply levels.
Assists in orienting new employees to each work assignment area and department operations.
Assists with staffing, planning and control of operational functions; assists and instructs in the supervision of specialized technical skill requirements and work performance in the department.
Works with management in developing quality monitors, in-service programs and orientation programs; assumes responsibility for the department in the absence of the Manager.
Assists in the investigation of problem areas and/or complaints with respect to intra- and inter-departmental operations.
Oversees biological and environmental monitoring processes.
Assists in the daily orientation and instruction of newly-assigned personnel and students.
Qualifications
Education:
High school graduate or equi! valent (GED).
Successful completion of an accredited vocational training course is preferred.
Experience:
One year of recent related work experience, preferably in an acute care hospital.
License/Ce
rtification:
One year of work experience as a Central Service Technician-Cert (or equivalent), or any combination of experience or education that would demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position.
Certification and registration as a C.R.C.S.T. is preferred.
