Responsibilities:
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS )
1. Prepares patient and independently performs Echocardiography exams & procedures , includes but is not limited to:
Using a professional, ethical, and caring demeanor, prepares and informs patients of exam procedure. Obtains necessary consent for stress tests.
Identifies patients properly using prescribed method.
Verifies patient clinical history prior to exam. Evaluates and assesses the patient's condition based upon information from the referring physician, medical records, and patient interview; selects appropriate instrumentation for the exam.
Assists physicians with special procedures such s TEE studies.
Transfers and positions patient safely and properly for examination.
Observes and monitors patientâs condition and reactions to exam.
Safety: Provides protection f! or patient, self, and other staff in accordance with prescribed safety ! standards and protective devices. Uses proper sterile technique.
Independently performs echocardiography examinations and procedures in accordance with established protocols and standards. Performs 2-D, real time, M-Mode, Pulsed Doppler, color flow imaging, stress echocardiograms, dobutamine pharmacologic studies, TEE, bubble-contrast studies. Demonstrates ability to perform the entire variety of technical procedures expected of an Echocardiographer.
Produces technically acceptable radiographs in accordance with departmental procedures. Selects proper technical factors. Reviews and evaluates digital images for technical quality.
Completes daily work in a timely fashion within exam time-window.
2. Operates, troubleshoots, maintains equipment, includes but is not limited to:
Operates echocardiography equipment according to departmental procedures.Adjusts image parameters as applicable for the exam.
Uses systems effectively to evaluate and improve ! image quality.
3. Documentation , includes but is not limited to:
Prepares preliminary diagnosis / report for cardiologist, including anatomic and physiological data and diagnostic observations.
Uses RIS/PACS effectively to input/order/edit/cancel exams.
Completes calculations and required paperwork and records. Accurately inputs exam orders, patient data, patient charges, and prepares reports.
Effectively uses the computer and NWH software applications to access information.
4. Coordinates and optimizes customer service and workflow, includes but is not limited to:
Continually evaluates patient flow and work assignments, makes necessary adjustments, and prioritizes work effectively.
Exhibits excellent customer service skills with patients, physician office staff, coworkers, management, vendors, etc.
In order to provide a high level of customer service and necessary coverage, all staff are required to answer phones; assis! t in other areas (such as order entry, image library, scheduling, patie! nt transport); work weekends, other shifts, holidays; take call; and help co-workers with workload and projects.
5. Maintains environment, includes but is not limited to:
Sets up exam rooms, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are ready.
Inventories supplies and linens. Restocks rooms as needed.
Cleans and tidies exam rooms, patient holding rooms, wait rooms, etc.
6. Training and Collaboration , includes but is not limited to:
Assists with training and mentoring new personnel.
Prepares and presents in-service education programs if assigned.
Attends staff meetings and required inservices.
Participates in departmental goals and performance improvement projects.
