As a Health Technician (Orthopedic! Technician) you will assist physicians in the treatment of patients with orthopedic conditions and injuries. Prepare the clinic operating room by setting up equipment and stocking supplies. Position and drape patients on the operating table. Maintain asepsis throughout the operative process and respond immediately to emergency situations such as hemorrhage. Construct, apply, and remove plaster casts and splints for the immobilization and treatment of bone fractures, sprains and dislocations. Maintain stock level or medical supplies used in surgical and treatment rooms and restock as necessary. Assist front desk personnel in the processing of patients and monitoring telephones. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Experience Requirement:
To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: experience preparing patients for the application of orthopedic support devices and/or materials. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, and abilities) in the following areas:
• Skill in the application and removal of casts and splints.
• Ability to provide assistance for orthopedic procedures.
• Knowledge of supply and equipment requirements.
• Ability to coordinate patient intake and assistance.

Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid experience or volunteer work.!

Education Substitution:
To qualify based on education only, applicants must successfully completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position such as anatomy, biology, physiology, and sports medicine etc.

Combining Experience and Education:
Combinations of successfully completed education and experience described above may be used to meet total qualification requirements at the GS-05 grade level.

Foreign education must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency in order to be considered for this position. You must include this information with your application package.
Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive educa! tion requirements or to substitute for experience. • This position requires an immunization screening to determine inoculation for Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR), Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis (Tdap), Hepatitis B series, Chickenpox titer and skin test screening for Tuberculosis (TB).
• This position has a mandatory seasonal inf! luenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seaso! nal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for appointment to this position will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations.
• All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
• This position requires wearing a uniform (scrubs).
• This position is identified as Weather Essential which may require the incumbent to report to work when inclement weather has curtailed operations (examples: facility/post closure, delayed reporting).

Conditions of Employment:
• This position is subject to working with patients under the age of 18 years old, which requires a criminal history background check in each state resided during the past five years.
• This position is a drug Testing Designated Position (T! DP) subject to pre-employment testing and random drug testing.
