The University of Washington Department of Pathology is a dynamic organization, one of the best in the country that has had a consistent level of high achievement in all of its activities. Our educational and training programs include the Pathology Residency Training Program, the Ph.D. Program in the Molecular Basis of Disease, and the teaching of medical students, postdoctoral research fellows and clinical fellows.
The Heart Regeneration Program, a newly f! ormed translational program within UW Medicine, is designed to! develop human embryonic stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes as a cell therapeutic. The program has an immediate opening for a Team Leader of Animal Modeling.
The Department of Pathology has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist Engineer 4. The job responsibilities for this position include evaluating embryonic stem cell-derived cardiomyocyte preparations in a rodent model of cardiac ischemia/reperfusion, optimizing catheter-based cell delivery and immunosuppressive regimens in a large animal model of myocardial infarct, safety and efficacy testing lead candidate preparations of embryonic stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes in a large animal model of myocardial infarct, and writing SOPs for animal testing protocols.
The person filling this position will lead a small group of scientists, but is expected to be hands-on, as well as managerial. This is a full time professional staff position, reporting to the Director of Operations for the Heart Regene! ration Program.

REQUIREMENTS:
D.V.M./V.M.D. with completion of Lab Animal Residency Training program, or Ph.D. with in vivo focus
2 years of hands-on experience with large animal survival surgery
2 years of hands-on experience with an animal model of myocardial infarct
Proficiency with basic histological processing
Strong communication and organizational skills; Demonstrated ability to design, analyze and report findings from in vivo studies
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
DESIRED:
Some hands on cell culture experience
Management experience
Working knowledge of MRI and echocardiography
Familiarity with preclinical safety and efficacy studies supporting IND fi! ling
Condition of Employment:
Ability to work flexi! ble hours, including evenings and weekends as needed
