Responsibilities:
Billing : Working collaboratively with others, performs medical billing functions to third party payers. Reviews itemized! bills to verify accuracy and completeness of charges and codes. Operat! es hospital’s electronic billing systems and interacts with third party electronic billing systems; navigates through systems to find information.

Third-Party Follow-up and A/R (Payment) Posting : Actively follows-up with and coordinates payments from third party payers. Ensures that all third-party and self-pay payments, adjustments, and denials are posted to facilitate timely and accurate management of A/R.

Customer Service: Answers patient’s questions concerning bills or payments, and resolves issues effectively.

Credit Balance. Completes credit balance.

Medicare Report Preparation: Prepares annual Medicare bad debt cost report and quarterly Medicare credit balance report.

Acts as Expert Resource : Troubleshoots problems; assists and trains less-experience staff members. Makes suggestions/recommendations for process improvements.

Researches and resolves issues: Researches denied ! or incomplete claims. Investigates codes for which insurance companies disallow reimbursement.

Qualifications:
Education Background

Requires, at a minimum, a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

Licensure, Registration, Certification

None required

Special Training/Skills

Able to work independently and solve problems, as well as collaborate and share knowledge with team members.

Requires good skills in office computer applications (especially Excel), basic math, typing, 10-key by touch.

Requires knowledge of 3 rd -party insurance and government program payment methods.

Requires good attention to detail.

Work Experience

Requires at least 1-2 years experience (or directly related education can be substituted for experience) in:

Bookkeeping or accounting

Medical terminology and coding

Medical insurance processes

General office proce! dures

Medical posting, billing and/or patient account service,! and problem resolution

Hospital billing practices

Electronic billing systems

Physical Abilities
Physical Demand Level: Sedentary

In an 8-hour workday, must be able to-

Lift / Carry 10 pounds occasionally

As required, must be able to -

Sit, Stand, Walk, Bend, Squat, Kneel, Crawl, Climb and Reach above shoulders

Push and Pull

Perform fine motor functions
