This is a non-bargaining unit position. DUTIES:
The
Settle VA Medical Center has an immediate opening for an Assiociate Director of
Dental Services assigned to our American Lake Campus. At This level you will
be a working supervisor with responsibility for planning, organizing, and
dire! cting a dental program at American Lake.
The
Assistant Director is responsible to perform the following duties:

  • Supervise
staff;
  • Coordinate
dental services to meet the oral health needs of the patient;

  • Examine,
evaluate and diagnose diseases, disorders and conditions of the oral cavity,
maxillofacial area and adjacent and associated structures;

  • Treat
diseases, disorders and conditions of the oral cavity, maxillofacial area and
the adjacent and associated structures;

  • Provide
services to prevent diseases, disorders and conditions of the oral cavity,
maxillofacial area and the adjacent and associated structures;

  • Fabricate,
repair or alter a dental prosthesis;

  • Administer
anesthesia in accordance with VA directives.

  • Prescribe
drugs necessary! for the practice of dentistry;

  • Employ
and! supervise dental auxiliary personnel;

  • Provide
patient care to adults with or without acute and chronic medical conditions and
will serve as a consultant to other healthcare providers, providing
consultation and treatment with the scope of their specific clinical
privileges;

  • Performing
any other work included in the curriculum of an approved dental school, college
or dental department of a university.

Physical Requirements - This position will require
walking, standing or sitting for periods of up to or beyond 10-12 hours per
day. Prolonged periods of sitting while performing dental treatments, prolonged
use of hands in delivery of! clinical dental treatment and in operating computer
mouse and keyboard. In addition, the incumbent will need to bend, lift and
turn.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Citizenship - Citizen
of the United States. (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to
recruit qualified citizens in accordance with paragraph 3g, section A, chapter
3, this part.)

Education - Degree
of doctor of dental surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of
education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the
schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the

course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
United
States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Council on Dental
Education, American Dental Association, in the list published for the year in
which the course of study was completed.

Schools
(including foreign s! chools) accepted by the licensing body of a State,
Territory, or Co! mmonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as
qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure
requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a
performance examination measuring clinical competence.

Residency or Comparable
Experience - At full
grade and above, one postgraduate year of hospital training in the form of an
approved residency program (general practice or specialty), or comparable
experience as a dentist member of a hospital medical staff actively involved in
hospital dental care.

Licensure and Registration - Current, full, and unrestricted
license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the
United States (i.e. Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia. The dentist
must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a
requirement for continuing active, current licensure.

P! referred Experience: Experience as a working
supervisor with responsibility for planning, organizing, and directing a dental
program.

English Language Proficiency - Dentists, including residents,
appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and
written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), 7407(d).
