UW Medicine's Center on Adult Genetics has an excellent opportunity for a Part time (50%) Patient Services Specialist to assist in the preparation and coordination of patient visits. Process incoming and outgoing referrals; schedule multiple (interdisciplinary) appointments; obtain and verify demographic and financial information; process patient paperwork, coordinate care with other services, triage patient telephone inquiries; check in patients at front desk; provide information about services.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Complete UWMC patient registration process; verify and update insurance coverage according to established policies and procedures.
  • Schedule appointments consistent with patient needs and clinic scheduling guidelines, including patient demographic information
  • Assemble and send appointment and other information to patients
    Maintain current and accurate system by entering canceled and rescheduled appointments and make every effort to fill all available slots.
  • Coordinate and schedule for interdisciplinary team of providers
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of provider and clinic schedules
  • Answer the telephone in a professional & courteous manner according to UWMC standards; direct calls as appropriate.
  • Triage telephone calls to appropriate staff; obtain necessary information for return calls; initiate emergency procedure when necessary, using appropriate documentation tools.
  • Communicate information on medical center programs to patients, referral agencies, University departments, physicians and the community.
  • Provide community resource information to patients, families, and referring providers.
  • Communicate basic information to patients such as insurance, parking, driving directions, etc.
  • Collect co-pays, deposits and other time of service payments. Reconcile daily cash and receipts.
  • Work with caregivers and extended family members; provide clear and detailed information regarding appointments and ancillary tests, including follow-up.

  • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    High School graduation or equivalent AND one year of healthcare, administrative, or customer service experience OR equivalent education/experience.
