If so, you may want to consider working as a District Court Clerk Trainee. Applications are invited for an eligible list for one full-time, regular position of District Court Clerk Trainee for Churchill County. While this is a "trainee" position, the successful applicant is expected to have previous clerical experience.

The duties include assisting the public and other departments in court procedures and completion of forms and documents, scheduling hearings and notifying defendants and witnesses of court appearances, taking and transcribing minutes of court proceedings, maintaining and processing a variety of records, receiving and maintaining records of payments to the Court, and providing other clerical support functions to the District Court.

Due to the nature of the information the position handles, the incumbent must be able to maintain strict confidentiality. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required. Hiring will be contingent upon the results of thorough background checks.

Selection for oral interview will be based upon qualifications presented in application materials. The eligible list will be maintained for twelve months. Inclusion on the eligible list is not a guarantee of a current or future job offer.

Position Summary: Provides specialized, legal office support to ensure that all case files, documentation and participants are organized and available for efficient and effective courtroom operations; acts as liaison between the court and proceeding participants, maintains records of court proceedings and follows-up as required.

Essential Functions

  • Demonstrates regular, reliable and punctual attendance.
  • Provides information and technical guidance to the public regarding court procedures, official information, resources, and the use/completion of various forms and documents.
  • Schedules hearings; notifies affected parties of court appearance dates; issues arrest warrants; requests documents/information from other agencies; ensures that all files, documents, evidence and other materials are available and organized prior to the beginning of court session.
  • Gathers information from documents and contracts from other County departments or external agencies; enters and retrieves data from automated systems; prepares periodic or special reports; creates a variety of data formats, reports, spreadsheets and databases; enters information on notices and correspondence in regard to orders to appear, subpoenas, court orders and affidavits.
  • Takes and transcribes minutes of court proceedings; operates audio and video equipment; administers oaths to witnesses and jury members.
  • Maintains chain of evidence and ensures security of all files and documents; organizes, maintains and purges files and documents.
  • Receives and maintains records of payment to the Court; arranges payment schedules as directed by the Court; distributes fees collected; reconciles cash with records and makes deposits of funds received.
  • Provides data entry of record searches, letters from defendants, etc.
  • Composes a variety of correspondence and other written materials from instructions or brief notes; types or word processes a variety of materials; proofreads and checks typed and other materials for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with departmental policies and regulations.
  • Assigns case numbers; organizes case files; receives returns on search warrants; maintains accurate records and files.Represents the County with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and Experience
High School Diploma/GED; AND one (1) year of customer service experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.70 per hour
