Under the sponsorship of assigned Medical Director or physician, provides quality patient care in specific areas of a! ssignment including Cardiac Surgery, Palliative Care, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Thoracics Vascular Surgery, Medical Oncology, Urgent Care, or Emergency Services/Orthopedic. Works collaboratively with physicians, other providers, and nursing staff by providing daily patient management. Provides education and instruction to other staff as required.

EDUCATION REQUIRED :
Master's in Nursing (MSN, MN) in area of specialty; national board certification as a nurse practitioner in area of specialty.
LICENSE / CERTIFICATION / REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED :
Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner in Wa! shington State with prescriptive authority
BLS certif! ication is required
DEA certificate
Subspecialty certification encouraged
Current ACLS; PALS is required based on area of assignment.

DEA Certificate
Continuing Education credits to maintain licensure
Maintain Harrison Medical Center non-physician practitioner privileging

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
2-4 years ARNP or advanced practice experience in area of assignment in a health care setting

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
Provides quality patient care, according to hospital and industry standards, to assigned patients; demonstrates appropriate age-related competencies; provides patient education on all procedures according to age specific needs; facilitates patient’s cooperation and alleviates ! anxiety; addresses patients’ concerns.
Complies with requ! ired documentation including: chart notes, dictation and billing of consults, fee sheets, co-signed signatures and scheduling of cases
Responsible for data collection for a variety of databases maintained by Harrison Medical Center as assigned
Provides education to nursing staff through bedside training, formal didactic classes and continuing education offerings.
Participates in clinical research activities as appropriate
Communicates pertinent information to physicians, Infection Control, and other hospital personnel as required to maintain safe patient care practices.
Maintains a courteous and professional manner towards patients, staff and family members
Actively participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings as needed
Demonstrates collegial working relationships with various community providers

When Assigned to Cardiac Surgery Program:
Coordinates inpatient and outpatient consultations
Coordinates activities of the cardio-thoracic surgery clinic. Schedules patients for clinic appointments. Assists and supports clinic ancillary staff as needed.
Acts as a liaison with Cardio-thoracic surgery, cardiology, anesthesia and administration; keeps family advised as to the condition of patient throughout the surgical procedure
Provides patient education, preparation and support during the surgical experience; participates in surgical procedures within scope of practice and license
Provides daily patient management in the Critical Care Unit, Progressive Care Unit and Outpatient Departments in collaboration with physicians; refers care as appropriate; collaborates closely with nursing and social work staff to develop discharge plans
When Assigned to Urgent Care:
Directs pa! tient care for a variety of clinical presentations, including minor sur! gical, orthopedic, pediatric, gynecologic and general medical conditions; works effectively with on-duty physicians
Orders lab and other diagnostic procedures to facilitate diagnosis; prescribes medication when necessary within scope of practice and license authority.
When necessary, facilitates the entry of the patient into the inpatient setting by working with EMS personnel and receiving/admitting physicians.
Anticipates patient care needs when census is high and efficient patient flow is essential
Participates in Urgent Care QI activities
Participates in telephone follow-up and other clinic chores
When Assigned to Emergency Services/Orthopedic:
Receive and prep patients requiring orthopedic intervention in the Emergency Room; completes H. & P.'s; orders and analyses lab work; radiologic results and other health information to make informed diagnosis
When required, follows patient into surgery; func! tions as a surgical assistant as required
When Assigned to Medical Oncology Clinics:
Works in a collaborative model to provide quality care and improve patient outcomes for cancer patients, families, and staff.
Performs and documents comprehensive medical and psychosocial health histories and examinations.
Gathers data, conducts initial history and physical examination, and formulates and implements treatment plans in collaboration with the physician on selected patients with specific oncologic and primary care diagnoses.
Initiates hospital admissions of clinic patients that include: a dictated history and physical examination, appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests, and written admission orders.
Orders and interprets diagnostic studies related to the patient’s plan of care and response to treatment.
Initiates consultation with specialists as indicated.
Orders blood/blood products and IV! hydration
Identifies treatment-related toxicities and initiat! es interventions.
Demonstrates expertise in symptom management.
Monitors and adjusts patient medications and treatments according to the medical plan of treatment, including the management of anti-coagulation therapy and growth factors.
Independently prescribes schedule II-V drugs with current DEA certificate
Collaborates with physicians and chemotherapy infusion nurse to schedule and administer chemotherapy.
Writes chemotherapy orders and evaluates the medical plan of care in collaboration with physician.
Demonstrates knowledge of cancer risk factors, diagnoses, disease processes, and treatment options.
Performs certain diagnostic procedures after appropriate training and supervision, including bone marrow biopsy and aspirate, peripheral IV central catheter insertion, skin punch biopsy, PAP smear, and endometrial biopsy.
Provides genetic cancer risk assessment consultative services, documenting and bil! ling appropriately.
Provides information on disease, treatment, health promotion, and disease prevention to patients and families.
Educates professional staff through consultations and presentations.
Participates in the development of educational materials for patients and healthcare providers.
Provides consultation to lay groups and other healthcare professionals in the community as available.
Maintains current knowledge of healthcare techniques and practices by participating in workshops, seminars, and professional organizations.
Demonstrates knowledge of the research process and collaborates with investigators, nurses, and physicians to support and promote research.
Recruits patients for clinical trials and works in collaboration with data manager as needed.
Reviews, disseminates, and incorporates research findings into clinical practice.
Promotes the philosophy of employer and acts as a rol! e model and resource person for staff
Ensures and maintains pa! tient and family confidentiality at all times
Adheres to standard policies for infection control, fire, safety, HIPAA, and emergency situations.
Complies with hospital privileging requirements as outlined in the Medical Staff Bylaws, Chapter 15, and Non-Physician Practitioners.
Must have regular, reliable, predictable attendance in performance of essential job functions.
