Day Shift; 7:00am - 3:30 & 7:30 pm. 8 and 12 hr shifts

The Surgical Technician provides technical assistance to the surgeon intraoperatively by scrubbing, setting up, and maintaining a sterile field for surgical procedures; assembling instruments and equipment; preparing medications for use at the sterile field; and functioning as a member of the surgical team.
1. Prepares basic sterile packs and trays. Identifies and selects appropriate packs, trays and a! ccessory/specialty equipment for each surgery. Examines integr! ators and other sterility indicators to ensure that all instruments are sterile.
2. Assists with the physical preparation of the operating room, creating the sterile field, and maintaining sterile technique during operative procedure. Prepares supplies and instruments for sterile field.
3. Participates in the Surgical Time Out, verifying instrument sterility and presence of items needed for the procedure.
4. Passes correct instruments, supplies and sutures as needed by the surgeon. Participates in the pre-, intra- and post-procedural counts of instruments, sponges, needles and other surgical items; immediately notifies surgical team of any discrepancies.
5. Sponges or suctions the operative site, retracts tissue for exposure at the operative site, and assists with irrigation under immediate supervision of the licensed health care practitioner. May assist the surgeon by holding the laparoscopic camera in the absence of a Physician Assistant. Cuts sutures plac! ed by the licensed health care practitioner.
6. Prepares specimens for submission for pathological analysis.
7. Fires automatic staple gun as directed by the licensed health care practitioner for skin stapling; does not perform deep tissue stapling.
8. Moves drugs to the sterile field, labeling and ensuring correct drug, dosage and expiration date.
9. Teaches new staff members, students, or others unfamiliar with the procedure or service about the procedure or service.
10. Restocks unused supplies and returns equipment to the equipment room after a case. May assist with room turnover, as needed.
Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program required. Current registration with the state of Washington as a Surgical Technician required. Also required are: working knowledge of anatomy and physiology; working kn
