About the Position:
You will serve as a Nurse (Clinical/Perioperative) for the Department of Anesthesia and Operative Services (DOAOS), Operating Room Nursing Service, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Tacoma, Washington.
Joint Base Lewis-McChord is a military installation (Army and Airforce) located approximately 9 miles from the city of Tacoma, Washington. Tacoma is a progressive city of 200,000 nestled between Seattle and the state capital of Olympia, offering the attractions of larger metropolitan areas with a hometown feel. Tacoma is located 32 miles south of Seattle, 31 miles north of the state capital, Olympia, and 18 miles south of Sea-Tac International Airport. Tacoma is on the shores of Commencement Bay, within pristine eyesight of Mount Rainier. World-class museums, hotels, and theaters draw thousands to downtown Tacoma while the shores of the Puget Sound and Mount Rainier inspire outdoor enthusiasts. Responsibilities
As a Nurse (Clinical/Perioperative), you will:
Provide specialized perioperative care to patients undergoing a variety of procedures ranging from highly complex, high acuity or trauma surgery to routine procedures.
Assess patients' current health status in order to formulate nursing care plans, which include preparing goals based upon nursing diagnosis, and developing patient outcomes.
Manage patient care for a wide range of procedures of an advanced nature and difficulty, such as procedures with high susceptibility to infection, and require bodily functions to be mechanically assisted by life support equipment.
Brief the post anesthesia nursing staff on pertinent information related to the surgery.
Serve as a project officer/unit coordinator for 1-2 surgical specialties.

This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for appointment to this position will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Tentatively selected applicants will be required to sign DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing. A job offer to an applicant who is a not a current employee will be withdrawn if the applicant refuses to be tested. Applicants with verified positive test results shall be refused employment. Applications from such individuals shall not be considered for employment for a period of 6 months from the date of the test results.
A pre-placement medical examination is required.
Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA). Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.

Basic Requirement for Nurse (Clinical/Perioperative):
Degree:
A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing
educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education,
Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an
accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School
: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure:
Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination and possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Education Substitution
: Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; or
Degree and Experience
: Possession of a diploma, associates degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program and at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the 10 grade level). Professional Nursing Experience is defined as:
providing surgical nursing care, educating patients or staff, and performing various administrative or floor duties.
