HMC Surgical, Emergent, & Integrated Clinical Services has an outstanding opportunity for a Central Processing Manager (CPU Manager) . This individual will report to the Director of Perioperative Services. Under general supervision, the CPU Manager is responsible for directing the hospital’s Central Processing Unit in providing equipment and sterilized instrumentation to the hospital. The Central Processing Manager will also ensure the department will meet or exceed the JCAHO requirements and that the department be maintained in a cost effective manner. Oversee and manage the activities of Central Processing, its functions, operations and services which include central decontamination and sterile processing of reusable instruments and equipment used throughout the medical center. Establish policies and procedures related to central decontamination and sterilization. Serv! e as a positive role model to facilitate and improve department performance and activities, demonstrating effective communication skills with peers, leads, staff, department managers and guest, to create an efficient workflow and team atmosphere.
Leadership -- Design, implement and evaluate systems to support patient care. Collaborate and promote team building with all disciplines and departments. Advocate, on behalf of the department, physicians and other hospital departments. Demonstrate ability to consider the impact of decisions and actions on the overall organizational philosophy and goals. Contribute to the development and implementation of department goals and objectives. Identify opportunities for improvement and collaborate with PCS administration to effect resolution. Participate in the evaluation of change processes and outcomes. Assist others to understand a more health system perspective.
Central Processing and Sterilization -- Assure the stan! dards of operation of the department are in compliance with the standar! ds set by regulatory agencies, such as the state Department of Health, Joint Commission, and other regulatory agencies. Establish internal inventory levels and maintain levels in accordance with set standards and in coordination with using units within the hospital, and monitoring them for proper utilization. Coordinate operations for decontamination and sterile processing functions that shall include assigning and directing workflow to maximize efficiency. Maintain and control instrumentation inventory in Central Processing for hospital units and surgery. Requisition purchase orders for repair and/or replacement of equipment and instruments. Work closely with Surgical Clinical Managers to ensure appropriate instrumentation is readily available, facilitating interdepartmental communication to maintain efficient flow of department services. Serve as a resource for decontamination of all instruments and equipment throughout the medical center. Maintain expertise and serve as ! resource for all sterilization process currently used in the medical center. Maintain competency and oversee the sterilization verification process for all sterilizing equipment. In coordination with Engineering, establish a preventative maintenance program for Central Processing equipment and maintain adequate inventory of equipment to meet hospital use requirements to meet the decontamination and sterilization needs for the facility.
Human Resources Management -- Mentor, coach, and develop Central Sterile Technicians. Act as role model and resource to staff. Monitor staff performance and evaluate staff on a yearly basis. Hire, supervise, counsel, discipline and terminate staff in collaboration with the Operative Services Director. Identify potential performance problems and proactively intervene with the goal to prevent the need for formal disciplinary action. Ensure adequate staffing of implant room. Monitor personnel to identify competency issues, and develop a! nd implement departmental performance improvement activities and assure! ongoing staff participation.
Financial Management -- Monitor employee productivity. Provide staffing appropriate for workload and case volume. Track use of instruments and loss prevention efforts.
Regulatory Compliance -- Function within PCS/HMC policies, procedures and guidelines. Participate in writing, reviewing and revising department/service policies and procedures. Help reviews incident reports and initiate procedural changes based on trends. Ensure staff are compliant with regulatory agencies and standards.
REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technologist or Materials Management Program AND at least five (5) of healthcare operations experience with related supervisory/lead experience. Successful track record of effective management/leadership and program management skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Teamwork skills conducive to a collaborative, professional environment. Experience with regul! atory compliance, staffing, and financial management.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated requirements.
DESIRED:
Two years of supervisory/manangement experience in hospital materials management preferred. Experience in a fast-paced, academic medical center.
