Essential Functions:
- Provide high-quality health care through direct assessment, diagnosis, and formulation/implementation of treatment plan for patients with common acute chronic illnesses and injuries (may include performing histories and physicals; ordering, interpreting, and following up on diagnostic studies; ordering medications; assisting with surgery; performing minor surgery; rounding on patients; and assuming on-call responsibilities).
- Perform health maintenance services, including patient education, for well members.
- Refer patients for specialty consultation or difficult problems.
- Document in writing all care in patient's permanent medical record in accordance with accepted medical/legal standards.
- Provide all medical care in accordance with accepted practice standards, hospital/clinic protocols (including supervision by a physi! cian), and state licensing guidelines.
- Coordinate, de! velop or organize patient or department services or programs.
- Examples include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in developing department/hospital protocols.
- Demonstrate ongoing skills, technique and clinical decision making in accordance with KPNW and Mohs Department standards within six (6) months of hire and thereafter to include:
- Accurate triage and provision of telephone and face-to-face advice and treatment options for defined patients having skin care related pathology that requires further treatment.
- Performs skin exams, biopsies, excisions, electrodessication and cautery and liquid nitrogen applications.
- Independently performs closures and repairs.
- Botox and dermal filler injections.
- Rooming Patients.
- Complex and simple dressing changes.
- Wound assessment /management of signs of adequate healing and or infection.
- Suture /Staple removal.
- Minor and Complex surgica! l preparation and direct assistance to surgeons.
- Local anesthetic injection (including digital block) and surgical field hemostasis for minor and complex surgeries.
- Mapping surgical sites according to MD preference.
- Appropriate documentation in EPIC.
- Basic Knowledge of Mohs Message Management.
- Culture and Biopsy Management.
- Mohs Photo Management.
- Multitasking and prioritizing needs of the department.
- Demonstrated knowledge base and ability to provide accurate education and instruction to members and families in group and individual settings for the following:
- Pre/post op care for Mohs procedures including medication management.
- Sun protection information.
- Skin cancer screening guidance.
- Types of skin cancers.
- Available treatment modalities for each type of skin cancer.
- Demonstrated ability to accurately assess, monitor and communicate changes in cond! ition to providers for Mohs patients within six (6) months hire. Leadership and Coordination activities:
- Demonstrate ability to make recommendations based on assessment finding for adjustments to care plan designated by the provider within the scope of practice for an PA within six (6) months of hire and thereafter.
- Collaboration/Co-ordination with ENT, Plastic Surgery, Oncology, and primary care in order to promote seamless patient care delivery.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize best practices and perform to standards for Mohs patients within six (6) months of hire.
- Advice and education specific to highly complex dermatological pathologies.
- Advanced assessment skills and knowledge base in Dermatology/Mohs.
- Ability to recommend positive changes to patient's overall health status.
- Coordination of care for complex health concerns transcending multiple specialties.
- Participate in call coverage.

Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum one (1) year of experience in a surgical environment/practice within the last three (3) years.
- Graduate of ANA-approved NP or AMA-approved PA or Child Health Associate training program (both provide masters or equivalent degrees) or equivalent requirements to meet State licensure.
- PA: National certification, state medical license, and prescribing registration at time of hire
- NP: National certification state RN license, state NP license, and prescribing registration at time of hire
- Thorough and working knowledge of all common diseases in specialty field.
- Familiarity with less common diseases.
- Working knowledge of state health care laws, licensing board regulations and controlled substance regulations.
- Important to know limitations and when to refer patients.
- Ability to assess, diagnose and effectively treat common medical diseases and inju! ries.
- Ability to use appropriate procedural/testing equipment,! to see large volume of patients, and to interface with large provider and support staff.
- Minor surgery or surgical assist skills.
- Demonstrate customer-focused service skills.
- Competent with identifying declining health conditions of the patient and notifying to the provider.
- Proficient and applies adult learning principles when working with patients and families.
- Ability to maintain composure in a fast paced work environment and when working with complex and often frail patient population.
- Ability to successfully demonstrate clinical skills and abilities in accordance with KPNW and Mohs Department standards within six (6) months of hire.
- Ability to utilize best practices and perform to standards for Mohs surgical patients within six (6) months of hire.
- Proficient and applies adult learning when teaching patients and families.
- Basic knowledge of surgical techniques and closures.
- Docume! nt proficiently in EPIC.
- Two (2) years of clinical experience preferred.
- Two (2) years of experience with medical dermatology or Mohs patients preferred.
- Board Certified PA preferred.
- Two (2) years of extensive knowledge and surgical skills with Mohs and Derm procedures within the last five (5) years preferred.
- Advanced assessment skills and knowledge base in Mohs surgical patients preferred.
- Proficient in triage and advice with the recognition of high risk lesions preferred.
