Provide administrative and clinical support for th! e delivery of optical and ophthalmic services.
Essential Duties:
Responsible for all patient intake.
Conduct patient evaluations, vision health testing, lens fitting and care orientations. Perform all phases of visual acuity testing within scope of training including: acuity, pinhole, amsler grid, color vision and other vision screening tests as assigned. Advance knowledge of ocular anatomy and ophthalmic/medical terminology and abbreviations. Triage and ocular emergencies; Answer technical questions/telephone calls for the front office.
Assist physicians in minor office surgeries, providing informed consent and patient instructions post surgery. Perform A-san ultrasonography. Perform advanced retinal photography as well as other diagnostic imaging (Optical coherence tomography/Scanning laser ophthalmoscopy) within scope of training.
Ensure that patient charts, medical coding, diagnoses and billings are accurately recorded and ! maintained. Record review for quality assurance and CPT compli! ance as directed by supervisor. Coordinate and schedule orientation and training of back office staff for medical records documentation as directed by technician supervisor.
Perform manual and automated lensometry, retinoscopy, refraction, understanding of spectacle prescription components and design, ability to write and read spectacle contact lens prescriptions. Perform applanation, non-contact and tonopen tonometry. Perform pupil evaluation, estimation of A/C depth and confrontation visual fields. Pupil dilation with appropriate drops. Administer eye drops for diagnostic and treatment purposes.
Perform keratometry, and operated autorefractor/keratometer. Perform automated visual field testing.
Ensure that patient inquiries or requests are resolved in a timely manner. Ensure adherence to departmental policies and procedures in the delivery of services.
Function as liaison between clinic and pharmaceutical representatives.
Sched! ule appointments, order tests, access network resources, utilize e-mail as necessary for effective communication.
Use diagnostic equipment to provide images and data across networks and post images from diagnostic instruments to network.
Prepare clinic rooms for patient and physician use.
Maintain ophthalmic equipment and clean/stock assigned rooms. Orders back office supplies and inventory control.
Confirms order of new supplies with technician supervisor. Forms management and creation as directed by technician supervisor.
Created new forms, manages process and order for printing of forms directed by technician supervisor and approved by
Clinic Manager.
Provide contact lens services including patient training on insertion and removal, lens care.
Perform basic contact lens fitting and over-refraction; order and receive lenses. Answer questions relations to ocular pharmacology; able to assist patient wit! h
questions/reactions regarding ocular medication, call in or ! manage medication prescription or refill requests on instruction of physicians.

Qualifications
Education/ Work Experience:
Certification as JCAHPO Certified Ophthalmic Technician required
Within the last four-(4) years, four-(4) years of clinical patient care, 2 years in eye care center
License/Certification:
Certification as JCAHPO Certified Ophthalmic Technician
Must have a current CPR certification
or must be certified within 30 days of hire date.
