DUTIES: The Primary Care Staff Physician has responsibility for providing primary care to a defined panel of primary care patients. The incumbent is responsible to contribute to the achievement of quality of care standards, efficiency, process improvement and patient satisfaction within the Primary Care Division, in particular to the incumbent's assigned panel of Primary Care patients. The incumbent is expected to practice in accordance with professional standards, core values, and with a commitment to service excellence.

The incumbent practices as an independent provider and may be assigned to any of the outpatient clinics within the catchment area of the Portland VAMC to provide primary care t! o a defined panel of patients.

Relocation expenses will not be reimbursed.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:QUALIFICATIONS:

  • U.S. Citizenship (Non-citizens may be appointed only if it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens)
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Must be board certified or eligible.

Education/Experience Requirements:
  • Degree of doctor medici! ne or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medi! cine or osteopathic medicine. [The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: a. Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Associate of American Medical colleges for the year in which the degree was granted. b. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted. c. Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.].
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The work is sedentary, however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts, or driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

This position will be filled on a full-time permanent basis. Upon completing any required probationary period, the position will be permanent.
