More complete informations about this job opportunity please read the description below. The Clinical Data Abstractor is responsible for supporting Clinical/Peer Review database management. Works independently to ensure all Harrison services or discharges meetin! g established inclusion criteria are reviewed against regulatory standards (such as JCAHO, CMS and other regulatory bodies) and database specific criteria. Collects, analyzes and reports data for databases such as core measures, Clinical Outcomes Assessment Program (COAP), American College of Cardiology (ACC), and Society for Thoracic Surgeons (STS). Accurately enters and manages data entered into selected databases to meet established standards and deadlines. Works closely with Quality department staff to analyze data and formulate Quality Improvement projects based on findings. Participates in Quality Improvement activities and processes to improve patient outcomes. Works with various clinical areas to coordinate and improve data collection. Analyzes data, identifies trends, patterns, and profiles, and reports findings. May make recommendations for process improvements.

EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Registered Nurse or Registered Health Information Technician degree preferred, or related quality improvement experience necessary.

SPECIALIZED TRAINING REQUIRED:
Acute Care experience

Medical Record review

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED :
RN License in Washington State, RHIT or RHIA (if applicable) preferred.

CONTINUING EDUCATION & COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:
Continuing education and/or licensing requirements:
As needed for RN, RHIT or RHIA

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Minimum of 2 years experience with data abstraction in a hospital setting.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILI! TIES:

Demonstrated skills in verbal communication and listening.

Demonstrated skills in providing excellent service to customers.

Demonstrated skills in Medical Record review specific to abstraction criteria.

Demonstrated ability to apply Quality Improvement methodology.

Ability to formulate professional data reports and presentations for hospital committees and physician specialty groups.

Thorough understanding of medical terminology, formulary drugs and pharmacological indication and basic disease management.

Demonstrated computer skills.

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL J! OB FUNCTIONS:
Understands abstraction components, both inclusio! n and exclusion criteria, specific to measurement. Adheres to established guidelines for criteria abstractions.

Completes patient data entry accurately and within established timeframes. If follow-up is needed, responds promptly with required data to complete abstraction.

Analyzes data, both on aggregate and patient level as needed, to identify trends as well as quality improvement opportunities. Works with Quality Improvement Medical Staff departments to disseminate information.

Actively participates in Quality Improvement activities and teams to improve patient outcomes and compliance with database measures.

Performs other tasks as assigned
