The staff Anesthesiologist is accountable to the Chief of Anesthesiology, providing the most effective anesthetic care throughout the medical center in compliance with VA and VHA Directives and The Joint Commission accreditation standards. The staff Anesthesiologist provides a variety of services such as:
Pre-operative patient exam and assessment.
Intra-operative care utilizing MAC.
Regional and general anesthesia techniques on ASA class 1 through 5 patients.
Post-operative care including ventilator management within recovery area and ICU.
Provides anesthesia-related direct patient care in all functional areas of the OR, ICU, ward and clinical settings as needed, to include on-call coverage.
Provides critical care related direct care as a part of a multidisciplinary critical care team.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Basic Requirements:
(a)
Citizenship
- Citizen of the United States.
Education
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree
degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary
of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
(c)
Licensure and Registration
- Current, full and unrestricted
of th! e United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must
maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement
for continuing active, current licensure. The facility Director may waive this
licensure requirement if the physician is to serve in a country other than the
United States and the physician has licensure in that country.

English Language Proficiency
- Physicians, including residents,
written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).

FOREIGN EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:!
To receive credit for education
completed outside the United States, you must show proof that the education has
been submitted to a private organization that specialized in interpretation of
foreign educational credentials and such education has been deemed at least
equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs.
